Will Soto,
Practicum Student
Hey, I’m Will. I’m currently a Practicum/Internship graduate student who is pursuing an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (I graduate in December 2026)! I’ve been in the mental health field since 2008 and have worked with various ages in different contexts including crisis stabilization, home/community/school-based, outpatient substance abuse, and more. I have worked with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, challenging behaviors, low self-esteem, family loss, and trauma; and have done so in both individual and group settings.

I am also a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor-Supervisee (CSAC-S).

I believe each person, regardless of who they are, where they come from, or their life experiences, should be treated with dignity, empathy, and compassion. My goal as a counselor is to empower individuals to recognize their strengths, gain confidence in their agency, grow in their resilience, and work towards wholeness through collaboration, validation, and mutual respect.

I hold an MA in Pastoral Counseling and an MDiv in Pastoral Ministries and was a pastor for over 10 years before leaving vocational ministry in 2021. I am passionate about supporting individuals navigating the complexities of religious/spiritual trauma, deconstruction, and asking questions; and am committed being compassionate and nonjudgmental in my approach.

I have utilized a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), person-centered therapy, structural family therapy, and narrative therapy.

Outside of the office, I love spending time with my wife, Shannon, of nearly 19 years; our three teenagers, and old-but-young Goldador, Kylo. I love reading good fiction, listening to all types of music (but especially 70s-90s), writing short stories, playing basketball, watching movies, and hosting my moderately successful podcast, The Red Treehouse: Scary Stories to Keep You Up at Night.
