Hi, I'm Laura and I'm a Resident in Counseling here at Empower. I completed my master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Liberty University here in Virginia. Through my counseling experience, I have primarily worked with women of all ages. As a counselor I strive to create a safe space with unconditional positive regard for my clients to be able to heal and recover from various presenting problems they are facing in life. 

 

I have experience working with clients who have struggled with life transitions, sexual assault, emotional dysregulation, abusive relationships, divorce, and complex trauma. I operate from a person-centered approach that focuses on the therapeutic relationship and non-judgmental positive regard for all of my clients. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to reframe cognitive distortions. I am also currently training to treat eating disorders. 

 

Outside of counseling I enjoy traveling, spending time with family, and studying for my PhD program!
